Amaury Chabauty embarked on an eclectic musical journey at an early age, ranging from cello and chamber music to rock guitar in indie bands. Before dedicating himself to film composition, while continuing to perform on stage, he studied cinema and spent nearly a decade working as a film editor on both fiction and documentary projects. This deep understanding of storytelling and visual dramaturgy shaped his belief that a film score is as much about staging and rhythm as it is about music. He put this philosophy into practice in 2006 by founding an ensemble devoted to live cinema performances, for which he composed original scores for classic Japanese silent films.

Over the years, Amaury Chabauty has forged lasting creative partnerships with filmmakers, accompanying many of them from their short films to their feature debuts. His collaborations with Sylvain Desclous, from the shorts Le monde à l’envers (2012) and Mon héros (2014) to the feature film Vendeur (2016), capture the relentless inner rhythms of the corporate world, with percussion and folk influences underscoring the protagonist’s schemes. Since 2020, he has also worked closely with brothers Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma, embracing orchestral writing to serve the conventions of genre cinema and socially grounded family dramas alike. Their collaborations include Teddy (Official Selection, Cannes 2020), L’année du requin (2022), and Leurs enfants après eux, adapted from Nicolas Mathieu’s Prix Goncourt-winning bestselling novel and selected in Competition at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival.

His collaboration with Anaïs Tellenne reached a new milestone with the feature film L’homme d’argile (2023), selected at the Venice International Film Festival, where the use of traditional music and orchestral writing transcends convention to evoke the rich, haunting atmosphere of a Gothic fairy tale. Equally committed to melody and sonic craftsmanship, Amaury Chabauty’s musical approach is defined above all by a keen sensitivity to narrative and character, with scores distinguished by their restraint, precision, and emotional depth in service of the film.
