Émile Sornin is a musical adventurer—an insatiable explorer of genres and influences, moving effortlessly between experimental chanson, psychedelic pop, music video direction, and even documentary filmmaking, as seen in Le Bon Coin Forever, his playful exploration of vintage instruments. The La Rochelle-born composer and multi-instrumentalist first came to prominence with Rhapsode, the debut album of his musical project Forever Pavot, which reimagined the psychedelic sounds of the 1970s through a distinctly contemporary lens. Following his collaboration on Charlotte Gainsbourg's acclaimed album Rest, for which he arranged and produced six tracks, Émile returned to his beloved collection of analogue instruments and machines, continuing to uncover the unexpected sonic textures that have become his signature.

His fascination with 1970s film music, jazz, and progressive rock shaped Forever Pavot's second album, La Pantoufle, a richly cinematic blend of influences ranging from Jacques Tati to lush psychedelic pop. His musical universe echoes the work of composers such as Vladimir Cosma, François de Roubaix, and Jean-Claude Vannier while remaining unmistakably his own. After composing for several short films, Émile made his feature film debut with the scores for Our Brothers (De nos frères blessés), directed by Hélier Cisterne, followed by Monia Chokri's Babysitter. His singular artistic voice was further recognised when he was selected for the prestigious Émergence Cinéma Music Workshop in 2021.

Released in March 2023, L'Idiophone, Forever Pavot's latest album, presents a collection of dreamlike songs conceived as miniature cinematic scenes, where the influence of 1960s and 1970s film scores merges seamlessly with Émile's growing body of work for the screen. That same year, he composed the original scores for The Vourdalak director Romain de Saint-Blanquat's La Morsure and Monia Chokri's feature The Nature of Love (Simple comme Sylvain), which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

While currently working on two new feature films, Émile's strikingly original score for Louise Hémon's L'Engloutie, selected for the Directors' Fortnight at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, has recently been released, further confirming his place among the most distinctive new voices in contemporary film music.
