Composite composer with a singular voice, Fabien Cali has developed a musical universe shaped by the meeting point of styles, eras, and artistic practices. Initially trained as an electric guitarist before entering the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he graduated with seven first prizes, he has forged a deeply personal language at the crossroads of orchestral writing, electronics, and amplified cultures, embracing a fluid circulation of forms reminiscent of artists such as Jonny Greenwood and Hildur Guðnadóttir.

From an early stage, his work attracted the attention of leading performers and institutions. His compositions have been premiered by artists including Maxime Pascal, Lambert Wilson, the ensemble Les Apaches, Julie Depardieu, and choreographer Martin Harriague, with support from Radio France, Philharmonie de Paris, and the Ministry of Culture. Winner of the Grand Prix SACEM de la musique contemporaine, the Prix Pierre Cardin awarded by the Académie des Beaux-Arts, and a laureate of the Fondation Banque Populaire, he has gradually established himself as one of the distinctive voices of his generation. Alongside his concert work, Fabien Cali has cultivated a close relationship with visual storytelling. He notably composed the score for the film Terre des Ours, for which he received a Jerry Goldsmith Awards, approaching film composition as an expanded narrative space where music interacts with editing, light, and dramaturgy.

His writing, both immersive and evocative, seeks less to illustrate than to extend the narrative itself, working through tension, breath, and the perception of time — an approach he notably developed in the score for the film La Nuit des longs couteaux. His music is regularly recorded by labels such as NoMadMusic, Sony Classical, and b.records, and he maintains long-term collaborations with several orchestral ensembles.

Following a three-season residency with the Orchestre national de Mulhouse, he is currently composer-in-residence with the Orchestre national Avignon-Provence for the 2025–2027 seasons, continuing a sustained and evolving dialogue with performers. Between symphonic creation, hybrid projects, and film music, Fabien Cali explores open and deeply sensitive forms in which the rigor of composition is placed entirely at the service of dramaturgy.
