With more than twenty feature film scores to his name, Pierre Desprats has, over the years, established a distinctive musical voice and a singular creative approach. Originally a drummer in hardcore bands in Toulouse, he first discovered cinema through sound engineering. After graduating from the Louis-Lumière School, he worked as a boom operator while continuing to explore experimental music and write songs. A multi-instrumentalist, he approaches composition through performance and physical gesture, allowing the writing process and the unique sonic identity of his scores to emerge organically.
Pierre's work first gained widespread recognition in 2017 with his original score for The Wild Boys (Les Garçons Sauvages). In this rich and eclectic soundtrack, he masterfully deconstructs and reshapes his compositions to accompany Bertrand Mandico's hallucinatory and exuberant cinematic universe. He has continued his collaboration with Mandico ever since, most notably composing the score for CONANN, which premiered in the Directors' Fortnight at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. He has also worked closely with filmmakers Lucie Borleteau (À mon seul désir, Chanson douce), Élie Grappe (Olga, selected for Critics' Week in 2021), and theatre director and visual artist Théo Mercier.
A sought-after collaborator for a new generation of filmmakers, Pierre has composed the scores for seven debut feature films over the past two years alone. These include Alexe Poukine's Kika (Critics' Week 2025), which earned him a nomination for the France Musique–SACEM Audience Award, and Alexis Langlois' Queens of Drama (Les Reines du drame), presented at Critics' Week in 2024. Alongside composing original songs—including Fistée jusqu'au cœur—he embraces a more classical, distinctly orchestral style, drawing on Hitchcockian influences to underscore the film's dramatic tension with remarkable precision.
Most recently, Pierre reunited with Bertrand Mandico for the visionary Roma Elastica, starring Marion Cotillard and Noémie Merlant, which premiered in the Official Selection of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
