Simon Meuret

Simon Meuret began his musical journey by studying the saxophone. Through years of experiences and encounters, he gradually expanded his practice by exploring a wide range of ensembles: after wind orchestras came the saxophone quartet, big bands, and various contemporary music projects. These experiences led him to discover the guitar and synthesizers, broadening his sonic palette and opening up new approaches to composition.

It was initially through interpreting the music of others that he discovered the foundations of writing, harmony, orchestration, and melody. These encounters made him deeply aware of the importance of sharing and collective creation in art, while fostering a profound passion for orchestral music in the broadest sense—music created and experienced “together.” Regardless of genre or aesthetic, Simon believes that art is inherently collaborative, and that the dialogue between cinema and music can sometimes give rise to truly unique artistic expressions. It is this creative dialogue that drives him and led him to pursue film music.

After completing a Master's degree in MAAAV (Music and Audiovisual Arts) at Lyon 2 University, he continued his studies in film composition at the Conservatoire du 12e arrondissement in Paris with Jean-Michel Bernard, and later at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) with Bruno Coulais.

Alongside his work on more than twenty short films—including Julie Gourdain's A Great Silence (Un grand silence), Charlène Favier's Odol Gorri, and Xavier Lacaille's One Last Summer (Un dernier été)—Simon has composed the original scores for several television series, including Théodore Bonnet and Axel Maliverney's Groom, Baptiste Lorber's Or de lui (France TV), Outreau (France TV), and Deter, the first daily series produced by France TV Slash. He is now reuniting with Julie Gourdain for her debut feature film, an adaptation of Audrey Diwan's novel De l'autre côté de l'été, starring Agnès Jaoui.

Simon Meuret also composes original music for theatre productions. He is a regular collaborator of director Mélody Mourey, a three-time Molière Award nominee, whose latest play Zone Indigo is currently running at Théâtre des Béliers.
