Thomas Dappelo

Since graduating from the CNSM in Paris, Thomas Dappelo has cultivated a certain eclecticism.

He works as a sound engineer for leading classical labels in Europe and the USA, and won a Grammy Award in 2014 for Anne Sofie Von Otter's album Douce France. He has recorded and mixed numerous soundtracks, including Alexandre Desplat's De rouille et d'os, which won a César for Best Music in 2013. At the same time, Thomas developed a career as an image composer, to which he now devotes himself full-time. In 2019, he will compose and orchestrate the soundtrack for Au nom de la terre, Edouard Bergeon's first feature film and a box office success.

The open spaces and the relationship with the land inspire him to write a rather raw music with folk accents that modestly accompanies the psychological evolution of the characters. Since then, he has continued to work with the filmmaker on his documentary work and on his second feature film, La Promesse Verte, to be released in 2024. For this film, he created a stunning score that blends Indonesian gamelans and Japanese taikos with more European orchestrations. Thanks to his years of experience as a mixing engineer, Thomas has put a strong emphasis on production and sound selection. On Dolores, la malédiction du pull-over rouge, a docu-drama series produced by Canal+ to be broadcast in the autumn of 2021, orchestral themes blend with more electronic and analogue textures. Brutality and violence are expressed through metallic, tearing sounds and saturated acoustic textures. Often minimalist, her compositions never deny melodic efficiency.

With Touchées, Alexandra Lamy presents three women on their journey of reconstruction. The main theme, written by Thomas, whose delicate emotions are at first simply evoked, gradually develops and reveals itself as the characters emancipate themselves. He recently completed the original score for the brilliant documentary collection Crimes contre l'humanité by Gabriel Le Bomin and the feature-length documentary La légende de la Palme d'Or continue... directed by Alexis Veller and presented at Cannes 2025 in the Official Selection (Cannes Classics).
